A TERMITE CANNOT DIGEST WOOD. It's true. The critters that gnaw on your home or belongings can't get any nutrients from the one item it eats. What actually happens is that protozoa (microscopic organisms) living in the termite's digestive system break down the wood for the termite. The termite lives off what the protozoa leave behind. If you subject the termite to heat that kills the protozoa but lets the termite survive, the termite soon starves to death. It continues to eat, but it cannot digest. This relationship, where one creature works peacefully with (or inside) another, is called a symbiotic relationship. A relationship where one lives off another and the host gets no benefits is a parasitic relationship. Examples of parasites are fleas or mosquitoes.

We can classify people the same way. Think of society as an organism. It must grow and consume much like living creatures do. How do you live off this creature? Are you symbiotic or parasitic? The termite's protozoa live inside quietly. The termite doesn't even know they're there. They don't damage the termite. They don't change the termite. They just keep it healthy by doing what they do best. Compare this to a flea on a dog. The flea causes irritation and discomfort to the dog. The flea sucks blood, which the dog must keep producing to meet demand. Does the dog like having the flea around? Nosiree! The dog scratches and bites to kill the flea or encourage it to move elsewhere. What are you like? Do you cause irritation or pain? Or do you happily keep the host (society) moving?

Ideally, we will work in such a way that keeps this great big machine humming smoothly. Don't do anything special. To work symbiotically with the world, we must continue to produce and consume. Work and play. Sleep when you aren't doing those things. Leave boat-rocking to the fleas and mosquitoes. We'll swat them eventually.

The wonderful thing about the future is that we really don't have to do anything, and it comes to us anyway. As long as we produce, there will be others just like us who will consume. Don't misread this and assume that Pine Tree State Mind Control encourages activism. Living symbiotically with society does not mean that you must try to improve the world. In fact, it means just the opposite. Support the status quo and it will support you. You have a friend in indifference, and this friend smiles broadly when you sleep.
