"SECURITY VERSUS FREEDOM" is the dilemma facing society these days. With
threats both internal and external, we must weigh the pros and cons of each. We are always
hearing about specific issues related to this trade-off. Some examples are wiretapping,
encryption of data on the internet, gun control, and control of pornography. In the United
States, freedom has always been a battle cry. The wars that shaped the first centuries of
our nation revolved around issues of freedom. Today, however, we must ask ourselves what
we are actually gaining from this concept.
Pine Tree State Mind Control does not wish to force these issues. On the
one hand, security is essential for society to consume and produce without constraint. On
the other hand, to pass laws imposing restrictions on the activities of citizens can cause
general discontent. This discontent is counter-productive. When people are protesting or
complaining, they aren't consuming or producing. Discontent is non-value added.
Better we should use mind control techniques to gently push people into using these
freedoms in passive (but consuming) ways. For example, the rise of the "information
superhighway" has precipitated a remarkable increase in the use of high speed data
transmission as a marketing outlet. What used to be a haven for perverts, punks, and
pirates is now used to advertise soft drinks, sports cars, and mutual funds. The
multimedia capabilities of the World Wide Web make subliminal imaging and frequencies
easier to mask and deliver (see Flash animation to left). The effects of this effort (with
which Pine Tree State Mind Control has had regrettably little
involvement) have been nearly immediate and numbing. The beast has been de-clawed. We
should target youth, for they are the ones who will be programming subsequent generations.
We can apply the Pareto Principle to say that 80% of your problems probably arise from 20%
of the population. This 20% is a group that does not think like we do. No, this isn't a
statement about race or class. It instead pertains to the legions of
"nonconformists" that are loose in our streets and schools. Only when people are
easily categorized have they been rendered harmless. Grouping the nonconformists is the
surest way to kill them. Who looks at a hippy or punk these days without thinking of him
or her as following a sold-out set of plastic ideals? And Grunge? That had a uniform
before it even hit New England. If we can corral those who march to a different drummer
and then get them to march in step with each other, we can nail down the trend and
neutralize it. After all, someone has to distill it before we can profit from it.
When freedom ceases to raise passions or inspire and instead becomes a simple choice
between predetermined methods of consumption (hippy or punk, Protestant or Catholic, Pepsi
or Coke), the world will be a better place. When freedom is comfortably bridled, Pine
Tree State Mind Control will have completed its mission. It should be everyone's
goal to reach a point where "What do we want to watch on TV tonight" is the
hardest question facing society.
