"IGNORE THIS: FNORD" IS A LINE from the Illuminatus Trilogy, an ostensibly humorous book popular some years back in certain circles. As was explained in the book, "Fnord" was a nonsense word that was inserted into the text of newspapers to subliminally cause anxiety in the reader. Depending on how liberally the word was used in various newspaper articles, a sense of outrage or horror could be generated in the reader. As children, the book explains, the schools had programmed us not to notice the word when it appears. For example, if the newspaper read "Seven nuns were injured fnord in a drive-by shooting fnord today", we would think we see "Seven nuns were injured in a drive-by shooting today," and feel very troubled by the story. The words "injured" and "shooting", in particular, would bother us the most. At Pine Tree State Mind Control, we read this and smile. We are amused because we know that school age is too late to make programming on this level stick in the subconscious unless alpha waves in the brain are present (as they are when we sleep or watch television). There are much easier methods of coding subtle messages that will work on people of any age and of any language. These include but are not limited to using masked, very small, or rapidly changing pictures, ultra- or subsonic frequencies, and the use of physical agents.

The fnords that appear between the first and second paragraphs and elsewhere are meaningless red herrings put in for your amusement. Ignore them.
